OCCA Leaders Chart the Future at September 2025 Strategic Planning Retreat

From September 14–17, 2025, leaders from OCCA member agencies gathered in Columbus for three days of focused planning, collaboration, and vision-setting. The retreat centered on how community corrections can continue to meet the challenges facing justice-involved individuals while strengthening programs that support safer communities.

Key priorities emerged from the retreat discussions:

  • Educating stakeholders on the full corrections continuum and the vital role halfway houses play in successful reentry.

  • Expanding staff training collaborations to ensure halfway house teams are prepared with the latest evidence-based skills.

  • Continuing advocacy for a common-sense approach to public policy in criminal justice, rooted in research and practical experience.

While the work was intensive, participants also had opportunities to relax and enjoy time together in the evenings. On September 16, the group headed to Huntington Park, where they watched the Columbus Clippers shut out the Omaha Storm Chasers under perfect late-summer skies—a reminder of the importance of building relationships and community both inside and outside of the workplace.

The retreat closed with renewed commitment to OCCA’s mission and the collective strength of its members. With shared vision and collaboration, OCCA is well-positioned to support community corrections and the individuals we serve in the years ahead.
